Speech to Text
The first Speech-to-Text was introduced in 1952 as voice recognition. That was more than half a century ago. Speech-to-Text technology has a long history and has come a long way since then. Instead of merely attempting to recognize digits it is now capable of picking up the speaker’s intent within the context of natural language.
In one context, Speech-to-text is much like voice recognition, but it goes further and is able to translate human whole speech into text aka. to transcribe. Not only does it convert speech (Audio File) into text (text), it also can enumerate words. A person is able to speak into a microphone, Phone or other device and almost all vocabulary is correct, independent of the size of the vocabulary. The intonation and pronunciation of the speaker are captured.
With such ability, speech-to-text technology offers several benefits. Speech-to-text can be used in a wide variety of applications such as the Health Care industry where doctors, nurses and pharmacists could perform other tasks with their hands and give instructions or take notes verbally.
The technology can also be used for other purposes such as automatic translation, car navigation, telematics, court reporting or real-time voice writing, hands-free computers, phones. Robots, video games, Interactive Voice Response (IVR), Speech-to-text (Voice translation) and air traffic control. Another use is within the airline industry where this technology can be used to command an automatic pilot system (Autopilot), change installed radio frequency or toggle flight control displays, etc.
